CJP calls for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and plans Mumbai protest on Oct. 2

The Cockroach Janta Party intensified its campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum for his resignation and announcing a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Oct. 2. Co-convener Saurav Das ridiculed Kumar’s perceived arrogance, claiming the Gen-Z protest will humble him, and questioned reliance on courts for electoral accountability. Founder Abhijeet Dipke called the event a “Jantar Mantar 2.0” and urged participants to chant “Gyanu must go.”
The CJP also seeks criminal proceedings, a halt to upcoming elections, reversal of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, and repeal of the 2023 law governing election-commissioner appointments. The protest follows an Indian one outlet's report that two Election Commissioners had objected to several CEC decisions, which the Election Commission says were part of internal deliberations and taken unanimously.
