Conditional pardon for Najib Razak does not alter pending 1MDB trial status
Despite receiving a conditional pardon, former prime minister Najib Razak's 1MDB case remains unchanged, MACC chief says.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's chief, Abd Halim Aman, clarified that the conditional pardon granted to Najib Razak will not affect the ongoing 1MDB prosecution or its appeal. Each case will continue to be handled on its own merits, according to the issues and investigations involved. One outlet legal position therefore stays the same.
Why it matters
The ruling shows that a pardon does not automatically halt high-profile corruption prosecutions.
