Congress blames BJP government for deadly Satya Niketan PG collapse

A five-storey paying-guest building adjacent to Delhi University’s South Campus collapsed on Sunday, killing seven students and raising concerns about the safety of student accommodations. Congress spokesperson Kumar seized on the incident to denounce the BJP government, alleging that corruption and administrative negligence were behind the disaster. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to SRCC as evidence that the government favours high-profile publicity over addressing deteriorating public infrastructure.

Kumar further suggested a nexus of illegal PG operations and claimed that while BJP offices were built to high standards, basic student housing was ignored. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) demanded that Delhi University construct its own hostels, shut down illegal PGs, and introduce rent-control legislation for student rentals. The tragedy has intensified political debate over campus safety and regulatory oversight.
