Congress leader Pawan Khera denounces alleged double standards at Bikaner House over protest photos

Congress figure Pawan Khera accused Bikaner House of censoring protest photographs while allowing politically themed artwork, calling the policy hypocritical.

The administration of Bikaner House, a state-run cultural venue in New Delhi, instructed photographer Raihan Rajiv Vadra to take down 75 photographs of democratic protests from his "No Idea Is Final" exhibition, invoking a rule against political content. Congress politician Pawan Khera responded on X, pointing to a 2025 display that showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi together with Mahatma Gandhi, which the venue had allowed.

He argued that the contrast exposes a hypocrisy in the government's cultural stance, permitting pro-establishment imagery while suppressing depictions of dissent. Khera also singled out former BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya and one outlet administration for double standards. BJP officials defended the removal as compliance with clear guidelines. Vadra removed the images to avoid canceling the entire show and intends to present the complete series at another location in Delhi and later in Bengaluru.

Why it matters

The dispute highlights tensions over artistic freedom and political bias in publicly funded cultural institutions.
