Cook Report Flags Three Traditionally Safe GOP Seats as Potentially Competitive

The Cook Political Report has revised its outlook for three House seats, moving them from solid Republican to likely Republican status. Ohio's 15th district, represented by Mike Carey, Ohio's 10th district, held by former Intelligence Committee chair Mike Turner, and Colorado's 3rd district, represented by Jeff Hurd, are now seen as vulnerable despite still favoring GOP candidates. Analyst Erin Covey explained that fresh polling, fundraising information, and the broader national mood—shaped by President Donald Trump's poor approval ratings—prompted the adjustment.

She emphasized that these districts were previously unchallenged by Democrats, with Colorado's 3rd being a modest exception. While the seats remain ahead for Republicans, the new classification signals they are no longer guaranteed wins in the upcoming midterms.
