Court denies bail to Hariram Gupta in Satya Niketan collapse case

In a decision by Additional Sessions Judge SPS Laler, the Delhi Patiala House court refused bail to Hariram Gupta, who is married to Urmila Gupta, the owner of the Satya Niketan building that collapsed on September 6. The collapse caused seven fatalities and left several others injured, with one victim still listed as critical. The court emphasized that the investigation is at an initial stage, no charge sheet has been filed, and witnesses have indicated Gupta's participation in the construction work.

It also pointed to the building's substantial monthly rent and the fact that electricity connections are in Gupta's name as factors against release. While denying bail, the judge instructed jail officials to provide Gupta with all prescribed medicines for his Type-2 diabetes and Gliptin-induced Bullous Pemphigoid. The prosecution argued that the family's role and the nature of the work remain under scrutiny, reinforcing the decision to keep the accused detained.
