Court orders businessman to delete Facebook post and apologize to activist
A Prague court ruled that entrepreneur Svoboda must remove a Facebook photo accusing activist Remundová of making a Nazi salute and publish a formal apology.
In a ruling by Judge Veronika Čechová of the Prague 3 district court, entrepreneur Svoboda was found to have misrepresented a photo he shared on Facebook that showed activist Remundová organizing a protest on Hradčanské Square. He alleged she gave a Nazi salute, a claim the court said was unfounded and harmed her reputation. Svoboda, who was present at the event, must delete the post within three days of the verdict, display an apology on his profile for 30 days, and mail a personal apology to Remundová within five days.
He is also required to reimburse the costs Remundová spent on the lawsuit. The dispute is linked to tensions between the Motoristé movement, now part of the government, and environmental activists.
Why it matters
The ruling highlights legal limits on defamatory online statements and protects activists from false accusations.
