Delhi bans non-BS-VI out-of-state vehicles from Nov 1 to curb winter haze
From November 1, Delhi will bar older, non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside the city, except CNG, LNG and electric models, to reduce pollution.
Effective Nov 1, Delhi will prevent entry of older, non-BS-VI vehicles whose registration lies outside the city, while allowing CNG, LNG and electric vehicles to circulate. The restriction is part of a broader anti-pollution package unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, which also doubles parking charges, mandates work-from-home for half the workforce and limits construction activity. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, speaking after a pollution-crisis meeting with Gupta and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, said the city has expanded its air-quality monitoring network to 60 stations and will operate an AI-enabled command centre.
Enforcement will rely on 334 teams equipped with PTZ cameras and geo-tagged monitoring tools, and government departments will be held accountable for emissions on their premises. The measures aim to curb the worsening winter haze as Delhi’s AQI remains in the moderate range.
