Delhi Mobilizes Tens of Thousands of Police as CJP Plans Massive Jantar Mantar Protest and India Rebuts Musk's Monopoly Claim
Delhi has deployed over 40,000 police and paramilitary forces to block a large-scale protest by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar, while the communications minister dismissed Elon Musk’s allegation of a monopoly in India’s satellite-internet market.
In anticipation of a protest dubbed Jantar Mantar 2.0, Delhi authorities have turned the city’s central corridor into a fortified zone, deploying more than 40,000 personnel from the Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force and other Central Armed Police Forces along the 500-metre stretch between Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar. The demonstration, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party, is aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral-roll irregularities, and the party’s founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived from Mumbai to lead the effort.
Police have begun detaining individuals deemed “suspicious” near the site, and officials indicated that three sports facilities could serve as temporary detention centres if needed. On the technology front, communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia refuted billionaire Elon Musk’s accusation that Starlink is being blocked by “certain oligarchs,” stating that India prohibits monopolies and questioning the relevance of Rahul Gandhi’s response to Musk’s posts.
Musk’s commentary also targeted Reliance Jio’s Mukesh Ambani, who is pursuing satellite-internet services. The briefing concluded with cricket coach Gautam Gambhir’s remarks on balancing batting and bowling after India’s bowlers struggled in a T20I loss to the West Indies in Ranchi.
