Delhi Police arrest building owner, wife and son after Satya Niketan collapse kills seven

Following the collapse of a building in Satya Niketan that killed seven people, Delhi Police captured the alleged owner Hariram Gupta, his wife Urmila, and their son Mahesh, who was responsible for managing the property. Investigators reported that the electricity connection was registered to Hariram, whereas the land title was in Urmila’s name. Hariram had previously been located in Bhiwadi after a citywide manhunt involving ten police teams, an FIR, and a Look Out Circular.

Rescue operations have so far saved 13 individuals and continue to search for additional victims. In the aftermath, the Delhi government suspended five MCD officials and ordered reinforcement and demolition of nearby unsafe structures. Student groups from NSUI and ABVP protested, calling for hostels and stricter safety oversight, while Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed a citywide seal on illegal five-storey buildings and intensified inspections of PG accommodations.
