Denmark and Vietnam Mark 55 Years with Green Partnership and New Factory Openings

King Frederik and Queen Mary welcomed President Tô Lâm in Copenhagen as Denmark and Vietnam celebrated 55 years of ties, highlighting a new green strategic partnership and the opening of LEGO and Pandora factories in Ho Chi Minh City.

During a three-day state visit, King Frederik, Queen Mary and President Tô Lâm met at Copenhagen Airport and visited a quantum lab, a Danish industry conference and wind-farm sites, underscoring shared green ambitions. The two nations marked 55 years of diplomatic relations, recalling the embassy’s opening in 1971, its closure in the 1980s, and the transition from aid to a strategic partnership on climate and energy signed in 2011 and expanded in 2023.

Recent milestones include LEGO’s $1 billion renewable-energy factory, the sixth worldwide, opened in April 2025, and Pandora’s $150 million jewellery facility, opened in October 2026, both located in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III. Danish companies now number over 150 in Vietnam, with total investment surpassing $2 billion, ranking Denmark 21st among foreign investors and first among Nordic countries. Trade between the two countries grew in 2025, with Danish exports reaching DKK 1.8 billion and imports DKK 4.0 billion. The partnership also envisions further collaboration in offshore wind, circular economy, sustainable food and health sectors.

Why it matters

The visit cements a deepening Denmark-Vietnam alliance focused on green growth, trade and investment, signaling expanding Asian markets for European firms.
