Denmark warns Russia is recruiting its citizens for sabotage of defence firms

Denmark’s national security and intelligence service, PET, announced that Russian actors are attempting to recruit Danish nationals for sabotage planning against defence firms connected to Ukraine. According to PET’s head of counter-espionage, Emil Gresholm, recruitment is occurring on social media and gaming sites, with tasks such as taking photos of companies or critical infrastructure. The agency warned that such civilian involvement, whether deliberate or accidental, could facilitate Russian sabotage operations in Europe.

Gresholm made these remarks in an interview with a Danish newspaper, emphasizing the threat to the Danish defence sector. The alert comes as European Union members, spurred by a German accusation of a Russian drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, are calling for fresh sanctions against Moscow. Moscow has denied any participation in hybrid warfare activities.
