Dental student Omar Tubasi fatally shot by Israeli soldiers during Hajja clash
Twenty-year-old dental student Omar Tubasi was killed by Israeli soldiers' machine-gun fire while Palestinians tried to block armed settlers near the West Bank village of Hajja.
At around ten o'clock on Sunday, residents of the West Bank village of Hajja gathered to stop a convoy of armed Israeli settlers from advancing into the community. Israeli soldiers stood on the opposite side of the confrontation. After the settlers fired smoke grenades, the soldiers responded with machine-gun fire, a bullet hitting Omar Tubasi, a 20-year-old dental student, in the head.
Omar collapsed and later died; his body was carried on a stretcher to his family home and then to a 700-year-old mosque for burial. Hundreds of villagers attended the funeral, expressing grief and anger over the escalating settler-related violence.
