DIICOT reinstates seizure on Nordis properties in Mamaia after appellate reversal
Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors have placed a new seizure on hundreds of Nordis apartments and related assets in Mamaia, reversing a court decision from the previous week.
Prosecutors from DIICOT re-imposed a seizure on a large portfolio of Nordis real-estate in Mamaia on 19 October, covering 155 apartments, eight parking spots, four commercial spaces, a basement, two unfinished boxes and fourteen land parcels. This action reverses a Bucharest Court of Appeal decision issued on 15 October that had removed the earlier seizure on those properties, valued at over one hundred million euros. The appellate court accepted appeals filed by Nordis Management and Nordis Mamaia while dismissing the objection raised by Vladimir Ciorbă, whose own seizure was left untouched.
The renewed measure is part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged organized-crime activities, embezzlement, money-laundering and tax fraud involving the Nordis group. To date, the case has generated roughly 700 criminal complaints and involves more than 800 victims, with prosecutors estimating substantial financial losses.
Why it matters
The seizure highlights a major corruption probe affecting a large real-estate developer and many prospective buyers.
