Eagles' longtime right tackle Lane Johnson retires after 14 seasons
Lane Johnson, the two-time All-Pro right tackle, announced his retirement from the NFL, citing mental-health priorities and family time.
Lane Johnson, the veteran right tackle who earned two All-Pro honors and six Pro Bowl selections, declared his retirement on Tuesday. In a social-media statement he expressed gratitude to the city of Philadelphia, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, the franchise and his fellow players, while emphasizing the need to prioritize his mental health and family life. Johnson had been unexpectedly sidelined before the team's Week 4 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams and missed four training-camp practices for personal matters.
He noted that although he wanted to play another year, his personal and family priorities have shifted. Over his 14-year career, Johnson won two Super Bowls, started 171 games, and helped set a high standard for the organization. He concluded that his heart tells him it is time to step away from football.
