Eight Central European Nations Launch Carpathian Integration Initiative to Boost Energy and EU Ties

At a summit hosted by Ukraine, leaders from Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria and Serbia endorsed a declaration establishing the Carpathian Integration Initiative. The platform will coordinate yearly summits and collaborative actions aimed at tighter economic, security and sustainable-development links across the Carpathian region. Participants pledged to boost energy resilience by expanding electricity, heating and gas networks, encouraging renewable sources, and modernising critical infrastructure.

They also committed to safeguarding the area’s unique biodiversity, cultural landscapes and traditional mountain communities while developing joint transport corridors that feed into the broader European network. Tourism, cultural routes, creative industries and veterans' support are slated for joint promotion. The initiative is presented as a tool to aid candidate countries on their path to European Union membership and to reinforce regional stability and peace.
