Eight minors detained in Malaysia for creating and selling animated child sexual abuse material

In a nationwide crackdown, Malaysian police detained eight minors, between 13 and 18 years old, after discovering they not only downloaded child sexual abuse material but also produced animated versions for sale. The group, consisting of seven boys and one girl, sold the animations to online communities with similar interests, with some items priced between RM50 and RM60. These transactions occurred through channels such as Telegram, e-wallets, PayPal and Touch'n Go.

Authorities said the youths likely acquired the skills via social media, AI technology and other internet platforms, though investigations continue to determine any external influence. The children’s parents were unaware of the activities until the police intervention. The cases will be forwarded to the Attorney-General's Chambers after the investigation, and counselors are available to support the minors involved.
