Electric Vans Gain Range and Cost Edge at IAA Transportation 2026

The IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover showcased a rapid expansion of electric light commercial vehicles, with more than 150 new models on display. Renault’s upcoming Trafic E-Tech, built on an 800-volt platform, promises up to 470 km WLTP range and a compact footprint suitable for city garages. Kia’s PV7, also on an 800-volt architecture, offers up to eight cubic metres of cargo space and a versatile body that can serve as a passenger or camping vehicle.

Chinese brand Farizon presented the V7E, a compact urban transporter built on a low-floor electric chassis. Established manufacturers such as Ford, Maxus and the Stellantis group (including Citroën, Opel, Peugeot) added new electric variants, highlighting lower total-cost ownership when diesel prices exceed 2.40 CHF per litre. The exhibition also stressed the importance of charging infrastructure, energy management and vehicle-to-load capabilities for businesses with predictable routes and depot charging.
