Escalating conflict forces thousands of Yemenis to flee their homes

Intensifying fighting in Yemen has compelled a large number of residents to abandon their homes, seeking shelter and basic aid.

According to the International Organization for Migration, the surge in Yemen's armed clashes has driven many families to flee, creating a growing pool of displaced persons requiring immediate relief. The agency's monitoring system tracks these movements daily, helping partners target aid where it is most needed. A rapid protection survey in three camps near Marib found that the absence of secure shelter remains the most critical vulnerability, with some households forced to sleep outdoors and exposed to ongoing attacks.

Women and girls are particularly concerned about the shortage of proper sanitation. Roughly half of the surveyed households have previously experienced forced evictions, leading to loss of assets and reduced coping capacity, which may push them toward harmful survival strategies such as child labor. IOM teams are collaborating with local authorities and humanitarian partners to provide emergency housing, essential supplies, cash assistance, clean water, hygiene support and protection services.

Why it matters

The displacement crisis underscores the urgent need for humanitarian aid as Yemen's conflict deepens, affecting thousands of civilians.
