EU fuel prices surge in August, double‑digit rises reported across most members

Eurostat released figures showing that fuel and lubricant prices for private transport increased in the majority of EU member states during August. More than half of the countries recorded price growth above 20%, while a few, such as Hungary, Sweden and Ireland, posted the lowest increases. The data also reveal a sharp rise in the value of total fuel imports to the EU in the second quarter, alongside modest growth in LNG import value despite a drop in volume and increases in both the value and volume of gas imports. The widening price differentials are contributing to higher household expenses and broader inflation pressures across the bloc.
