Expanded recall of frozen organic berries after E. coli outbreak sickens 17
A Chilean supplier has widened a recall of frozen organic berries sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s after an E. coli outbreak infected 17 people in Florida and Georgia.
The Chilean fruit producer Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. announced an expansion of its recall covering additional batches of frozen organic berries sold under Walmart’s Great Value label and Trader Joe’s brand. The FDA bulletin cited the Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, Organic Blueberries, and Trader Joe’s Organic Mixed Berry Blend as linked to an E. coli outbreak that sickened 17 individuals, with six hospitalizations in Florida and Georgia, according to the CDC.
No fatalities have been recorded. The affected Great Value products, identified by UPCs 7874211226 and 7874211213, were shipped to Walmart outlets across 30 states and Puerto Rico, while the Trader Joe’s berries reached stores in 26 states and Washington, D.C. Health officials urge anyone still holding the items to throw them away or return them to the point of purchase. The Florida Department of Health first alerted the CDC in July 2026, and the investigation was closed on Sept. 21.
