Families of FDS crash victims demand full, transparent investigation report

Relatives of those involved in the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang are urging authorities to release the complete investigation findings without concealment.

In Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, a Bo-105 helicopter operated by the Flying Doctor Service crashed on September 8, prompting families of the victims to call for the complete investigation report to be released openly. Nor Izzati Syamimi Suhaimi, whose husband was the captain, expressed the deep impact on the families and the need for transparency. Muhammad Faiz Abdul Malek, husband of a medical officer, said investigators have only shared preliminary data and that the full findings could require one to two years.

A preliminary report from the Air Accident Investigation Bureau noted no issues with the aircraft's structure, maintenance, or pilot, but the engines have been sent for further examination. The investigation into the powerplant remains ongoing, and any broader implications for similar engines have yet to be determined.

Why it matters

Transparent reporting is essential for public trust and safety improvements in remote medical aviation.
