Family of detainee who died in custody thanks Prime Minister for attention
The relatives of Noorizwan Zulkefly, who died while in police custody at Cheras, expressed gratitude that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim publicly mentioned their case.
Noorizwan Zulkefly, 42, died after being detained at the Cheras police headquarters, and his family thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for publicly acknowledging the case. His sister, Noorlien Zulkefly, said the mention of their brother by name gave them hope and prompted them to send a memorandum to the prime minister's residence. Anwar subsequently contacted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail for a status report and called for a swift, transparent probe.
The family highlighted a recent statement from the IGP about unusual injuries found on the body, viewing it as a new development. Despite assurances, they have not yet received a formal update from police and continue to demand arrests, charges, and a court trial. Noorlien hopes to meet the prime minister soon to thank him personally.
Why it matters
The case raises concerns about police accountability and the need for transparent investigations into custodial deaths.
