Family of Noida bus rape survivor locks home and flees village amid media scrutiny

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted on a moving bus on August 4 while traveling from Greater Noida toward Sector 63, according to police. The driver, identified as Kuldeep, 39, and the conductor, Sandeep, 26, are accused of the crime and later abandoning the victim near Kashmere Gate’s Ring Road. In response, the survivor’s parents have locked their house in a Mainpuri district village in Uttar Pradesh and moved to relatives’ homes, citing fear of intrusion and social stigma.

Villagers said media crews repeatedly entered the area, causing distress and prompting the family’s departure. The local SHO confirmed the family’s safety, while a nearby MLA reported difficulty contacting them and demanded strict punishment for the accused. Babita Chauhan, president of the UP State Women Commission, has written to the Gautam Budh Nagar police commissioner seeking tough action.
