Family trio among victims in Halden hunting club shooting, suspect detained
A school-age girl, her father and grandfather were wounded in a Halden hunting-club shooting, while two men were killed and the alleged shooter is in custody.
During a gathering of a hunting club in Halden, gunfire struck fourteen participants, killing Per-Ove Engebretsen (47) and Bjørn Rune Engebretsen (72) and seriously wounding a man in his forties. Among the injured were a primary-school-aged girl, her father Birger Braadland and her grandfather. The alleged shooter, 29-year-old Martin Braadland, admitted the acts in a written statement, has been charged with two murders and an attempted murder, and is detained for four weeks with strict visitation controls.
The victims’ family, represented by assistance lawyer Gunn-Mari Kjølberg, says they are receiving good follow-up but declines further comment. Police say the suspect acted alone, have taken his statements, and are pursuing several investigative lines, including possible conflict motives, while a full psychiatric assessment has been ordered.
