FBI apprehends six top fraud fugitives across three continents in three months

The FBI has taken into custody six individuals from its Most Wanted Fraudsters list within three months, saying they had spent over 4,000 days on the run.

Since the FBI introduced its Most Wanted Fraudsters list in June, six fugitives have been seized in a span of three months, according to Director Kash Patel. Manjit Singh Bedi was returned from India after an alleged $600,000 SNAP fraud scheme; Elaine Angene Escoe was extradited from Jamaica for a purported $32 million COVID-19 relief fraud; Khalid Ahmed Satary was arrested in the Middle East for an alleged $547 million Medicare billing fraud; Herbert Leon Kimble was captured in the Philippines after pleading guilty to a $1.2 billion telemedicine and equipment fraud case; Emylee Thai was taken into custody in Vietnam for alleged healthcare fraud involving genetic testing; and a sixth suspect surrendered in Minnesota shortly after being added to the list. The Department of Justice ties the six cases to more than $2 billion in purported fraud, and Patel said the success shows the list’s effectiveness in denying fugitives any sanctuary.

The arrests highlight the FBI’s new tool for targeting large-scale fraud that drains federal resources.
