Federal forces claim capture of strategic Alamata as fighting spreads across northern Ethiopia

In a recent statement, the Tigray Peace Force declared that its fighters, alongside the Ethiopian army, captured Alamata, a strategic town about 120 km south of Mekelle that serves as a logistics centre for fuel and food. The development comes after Tigrayan rebels launched a large-scale offensive last week, seizing three regional airports and pushing into Afar and Amhara, while the TPLF claims to be defending against federal drone and artillery strikes.

Federal troops and allied militias have counter-attacked, reportedly advancing toward the Tigrayan capital and striking the headquarters of Tigrai TV with a drone. In the Afar region, the TPLF took the town of Erebti, threatening the main supply corridor from Djibouti, and local officials allege Eritrean forces are participating in the fighting. Doctors Without Borders reported a surge in wounded patients, with hospital admissions more than doubling in 48 hours, and an aid worker estimated around 150,000 people displaced since the latest clashes began.
