Fidesz supporters hold flag march in Budapest without Prime Minister's appearance
Fidesz supporters marched from the university area to Bem Square, where Schmidt Mária, Áder János and Bóka János spoke, while Orbán Viktor was abroad.
On Saturday, Fidesz sympathizers started a march from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and arrived at Bem Square, where they listened to remarks from Schmidt Mária, Áder János and Bóka János. Prime Minister Orbán Viktor was not present, staying in Paris during the gathering. The previous commemorations featured Orbán speaking at Kossuth Square and a stage filled with well-known supporters such as Eperjes Károly and Radics Gigi.
This year's procession, organized by Szilágyi Ákos, followed the same route used by a recent Tisza-river remembrance march and culminated at the Nemzet Zászlója flag site. The Civil Összefogás Fórum had earlier called the organization of the event premature. Military aircraft from the Magyar Honvédség flew over Kossuth Square as part of the ceremony.
Why it matters
The march shows how Fidesz continues to mobilize supporters despite the leader's absence, reflecting internal party dynamics.
