FIFA accuses unnamed groups of mounting coordinated campaign against Infantino

FIFA released a notice on Saturday condemning what it called a "concerted and ongoing effort" to erode President Gianni Infantino’s authority, urging that any contestation adhere to the organization’s statutes and democratic framework. The alert came after Infantino’s proposal to generate about $4.2 billion by selling a stake in World Cup and other tournament commercial rights fell apart, prompting backlash from UEFA, several national federations and senior FIFA figures.

The controversy led to calls for Infantino’s resignation and a crisis summit in Morocco, where the leadership reiterated full support for the president. FIFA did not name the alleged opponents nor detail the specific allegations, but referenced recent reports linking Infantino to a former UEFA employee and denied those claims as unfounded. UEFA confirmed a departure payment and an MBA fee for the individual in question, while FIFA pledged to contest false or misleading reports vigorously. Regional bodies remain split, with CAF and the Mexican federation backing Infantino, whereas UEFA and Norway’s Lise Klaveness have called for his departure.
