FIFA launches review of its controversial Peace Prize awarded to Trump
FIFA’s Football Social Responsibility Committee will examine the creation and awarding of the organization’s Peace Prize to Donald Trump, with a decision expected in December.
FIFA has tasked its Football Social Responsibility Committee with a full review of the Peace Prize it introduced in November 2025 and subsequently awarded to Donald Trump. The probe will look at the prize’s origin, the decision-making process, and whether the award should be retained, reformed or removed, with findings to be delivered at the next Council meeting in December. The move comes after a series of governance issues were raised at meetings in Zurich, including questions about Infantino’s conduct and other policy decisions.
FairSquare, a UK-based human-rights organization, has asked FIFA’s Ethics Committee to examine possible breaches of political impartiality. FIFA’s Vice President Debbie Hewitt highlighted the broader context of the review, noting related concerns such as the suspension of a ban on Team USA’s Folarin Balogun and the scrapped Forward Enterprise plan.
Why it matters
The review could reshape FIFA’s governance and its stance on political involvement in sport.
