Final report on Penang ferry collision to be submitted this month

The collision between the Teluk Bahang ferry and the cargo ship MV Mekar Jaya on Sept 1 inside Penang Port resulted in 21 injuries. Following the incident, the Penang Port Commission launched an inquiry that involved inspecting both vessels and recording statements from those involved. An early report was submitted to a Transport Ministry task force while the investigation continued.

Chairman Yeoh Soon Hin announced that the inquiry has now entered its concluding phase and the comprehensive report will be delivered to the Transport Ministry later this month. He indicated that the findings will explain the circumstances and factors behind the crash, though the exact cause has not yet been revealed. Authorities aim to use the conclusions to improve safety and assign responsibility.
