Finance Minister Nazara pledges refunds for businesses that overpaid taxes

During a September 2026 press conference at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta, Finance Minister Nazara announced that the government will honor tax refunds for businesses that have overpaid, as long as they qualify under existing regulations. He directed Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto to ensure the refund process is handled correctly and that taxpayers receive clear communication. The Directorate General of Taxes is currently auditing several companies, following strict Standard Operating Procedures, before any refunds are released.

Nazara highlighted the ministry’s broader goal of encouraging tax compliance while balancing refund payouts with the needs of the state budget and deficit management. He noted that refunds are granted only when a tax payment was unnecessary or exceeded the amount due for income tax, VAT, or luxury goods tax. The announcement aligns with earlier statements that future refund policies will follow the minister’s directives.
