Flash flood in Madrigueras kills 102‑year‑old resident, 90 rescued as response is de‑escalated
Intense precipitation delivering 142 litres per square metre caused a flash flood that inundated Madrigueras in Albacete, submerging homes and drowning a 102‑year‑old woman. Around 90 residents were rescued, with 79 officially recorded, while five people remain listed as missing. The regional delegate Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, provincial president Santi Cabañero, local officials, the Civil Guard, the USECIC unit, SEPEI, the Red Cross and other services participated in the emergency response.
The Junta placed the METEOCAM plan in operational level 1 and road closures were imposed on CM‑316, AB‑105 and CM‑3222. Authorities have started de‑escalating the operation, and a GEACAM team is expected to join at first light.
