Widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across Spain on Tuesday

Tuesday will bring extensive rain and thunderstorms to much of Spain, with the greatest risk of heavy downpours and localized flooding.

Meteorologists warn that a weather system to the west of the Iberian Peninsula, together with an Atlantic front, will generate widespread rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday. Monday's activity will remain mainly inland, sparing many southern coastal resorts, but Tuesday's precipitation is expected to spread across the east, southeast and interior, with some locations potentially receiving around 30 litres per square metre in a short period.

The forecast highlights heightened flood risk in places like Alicante, Murcia and Andalucia, and advises drivers to anticipate reduced visibility and standing water. The Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, will also experience unsettled conditions, though the intensity will depend on the low-pressure development. By Wednesday, rain should ease, especially along the Costa del Sol, where only light showers are anticipated.

Why it matters

Heavy rain on Tuesday could cause flooding and travel disruptions for residents and tourists in Spain.
