Flash flood in Nepal's Gorkha district leaves dozens rescued, over 100 foreign trekkers stranded, five missing
A landslide in Gorkha district blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, creating a temporary dam that collapsed and sent a flash flood through Chumnubri Rural Municipality. The surge destroyed dozens of houses, several bridges and three hydropower facilities, and washed away a school and animal sheds. Rescue teams of the Nepali Army using four helicopters and ground units have moved about 95‑96 people to safety, while five residents remain missing.
More than 100 foreign trekkers on the Manaslu trekking circuit are now stranded at various points, though nearby tea houses and restaurants are reported safe. Authorities continue searches and are coordinating with trekking agencies for the stranded hikers.
