Former ministers Hankó Balázs and Varga-Bajusz Veronika taken into custody after parliamentary drama
Two ex-ministers, Hankó Balázs and Varga-Bajusz Veronika, were arrested following a chaotic parliamentary session and a brief detention at the tax office.
In the wake of an extraordinary parliamentary session, former culture minister Hankó Balázs was accused of distributing several billion forints in cultural subsidies to the ruling party’s election campaign. He first announced he would stay inside the parliament building, later appeared in a party office, gave an interview to a TV channel, and finally entered the tax authority where he was briefly detained before being formally arrested.
Three days after Hankó’s arrest, former state secretary Varga-Bajusz Veronika was also taken into custody. The session had also addressed the suspension of parliamentary immunity for another lawmaker, Seszták Miklós, who was briefly detained as well. These developments highlight a rapid escalation of legal actions against former cabinet members.
