Former NRW Family Minister and Green leader rally at Bielefeld pharmacy protest against AfD

Around 600 people gathered in Bielefeld to back the Panda Pharmacy, with former NRW family minister Christina Kampmann and Green leader Britta Haßelmann denouncing the AfD presence.

In Bielefeld, roughly 600 demonstrators assembled to show support for the Panda Pharmacy, which had posted videos refusing service to AfD supporters. Former North Rhine-Westphalia family minister Christina Kampmann called the pharmacy a "symbol of resistance against the Nazis of the AfD," while Green parliamentary group chair Britta Haßelmann criticized the AfD stand as a "pathetic troupe." The protest featured rainbow flags, Green Youth banners, and chants against the AfD.

When AfD Bundestag faction manager Stephan Brandner and MP Maximilian Kneller appeared at their information booth across from the pharmacy, they were shouted down by the crowd. AfD candidate Maximilian Kneller responded that Bielefeld could not hate the AfD, noting his own election via the state list after failing to win the direct mandate, which went to SPD politician Wiebke Esdar.

Why it matters

The protest highlights growing local resistance to the AfD and the politicization of commercial spaces in Germany.
