Former nurse recounts emotional moments with mother who later killed her three children

On a recent episode of Oprah Winfrey’s podcast, former labor-and-delivery nurse Meg Hamp recalled that Lindsay Clancy would often become tearful during births, expressing deep emotion for the mothers and newborns. Hamp, who shared a shift with Clancy at Massachusetts General Hospital for seven years, said she never observed any indication that Clancy was struggling with mental health issues while on the unit. When asked about the infamous Andrea Yates case, Hamp noted that Clancy admitted she had never heard of it, despite its relevance to postpartum mental-health discussions.

The podcast also covered Clancy’s ongoing murder trial, which concluded with a hung jury after one juror refused to convict her of first-degree murder. Prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will pursue a new trial, and Hamp expressed shock and devastation at the possibility of a retrial.
