Former Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung joins Bersama to court Chinese voters in Malacca

Lee Chean Chung, ex-MP for Petaling Jaya, has become an interim leader of Bersama and will head its campaign targeting Chinese-majority areas in the upcoming Malacca state election.

Former Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung officially entered Bersama as one of its interim leaders, taking charge of the party’s strategy for the Malacca state election, especially in districts with a Chinese-majority electorate. Lee resigned his parliamentary seat immediately after being suspended from PKR for three years and cited the need to move beyond what he described as “dinosaur politics.” He pledged to apply his experience to bolster Bersama’s campaign machinery in the targeted areas.

Bersama chief Rafizi Ramli said Lee’s arrival would reinforce the party’s leadership as it prepares for a nationwide leadership election next year. Lee’s shift follows a series of departures from PKR, including former ministers and MPs, amid growing dissatisfaction with the party’s policies on issues such as the Urban Renewal Act and tax matters. The former MP’s new role underscores Bersama’s effort to broaden its appeal among Chinese voters ahead of the upcoming state contest.
