Pakatan Harapan Penang postpones September meeting, eyes November session
The PH Penang caucus delayed its September 26 meeting and plans to reconvene in November, with discussions set to include UMNO’s role in the state government.
During a press briefing, Faiz Fadzil, deputy chairman of PH Penang, confirmed that the scheduled September 26 meeting was cancelled and that a replacement session will take place in November. The original meeting was meant to address UMNO’s stance in the state administration following the party’s criticism at its recent general assembly. Earlier, UMNO Permatang Pauh chief Zaidi Said claimed that UMNO President Zahid Hamidi’s alliance with PKR was designed to weaken PKR and hurt its coalition partner DAP, which he described as UMNO’s main adversary.
After making those statements, Zaidi resigned from the Seberang Perai municipal council and apologized. When asked if Zaidi’s remarks and resignation would be discussed, Chow said the issues would be on the November agenda.
Why it matters
The postponement signals internal tensions within the state opposition coalition and could affect future governance in Penang.
