Former Petaling Jaya MP Lee denies PKR inactivity, cites ignored mafia allegations

Lee, the ex-Petaling Jaya MP, refutes claims of being absent from PKR, saying his reduced role stems from ignored corporate-mafia concerns and a disciplinary suspension.

Lee, who recently resigned as Petaling Jaya MP, contested statements that he had been absent from PKR for over a year, arguing his diminished activity was due to his efforts to expose a corporate-mafia network that were ignored by internal party mechanisms. He reported raising the issue in Parliament in January and meeting Anwar Ibrahim in April, where he suggested establishing a royal commission of inquiry. Lee also cited entrepreneur Victor Chin’s March allegation that a PKR MP demanded RM9.5 million to resolve a legal dispute, noting the lack of any investigation.

In May, funding for his constituency was blocked and handed over to PKR, prompting his departure from the party's Central Leadership Council in June. On 2 July he received a disciplinary show-cause letter, responded on 9 July, but received no reply or hearing, and was subsequently suspended for three years on 30 September, which he described as a punishment without trial.

Why it matters

The dispute reveals internal PKR tensions and raises questions about party discipline and handling of corruption allegations.
