Former Senate hopeful Graham Platner slated to speak at Maine Labor Day gathering

Graham Platner, a former contender for the Maine Senate seat who exited the race after a July report accused him of sexually assaulting a former girlfriend, has been announced as a speaker for a Labor Day event in Ellsworth, Maine. The event is organized by the activist groups Hancock County Activists and Acadia Action Peacemakers. Marcia Myers, chair of the Hancock County Democratic Party, said the gathering is not an official party event, though the party often shares details about local activist activities.

Posts on the party’s Facebook and Instagram that mentioned Platner’s appearance were deleted, yet the event still appears on the party’s website. Platner has not responded to recent inquiries about his participation. He was replaced in the Senate contest by former Senate President Troy Jackson as Democrats aim to challenge incumbent Republican Susan Collins.
