Former UEFA chief Platini calls for Gianni Infantino's removal over rule breaches

Michel Platini told a French outlet that Gianni Infantino should be removed from his role as FIFA president because he has failed to uphold the game’s rules. Platini highlighted several World Cup incidents, including four-minute hydration pauses used for advertising, a halftime interval that exceeded the 15-minute limit, and the reversal of a red-card suspension after a phone call from Donald Trump. He said UEFA, along with CONCACAF and the AFC, is threatening to take the matter to court and has already threatened to boycott FIFA events unless Infantino abandons the FIFA Forward Enterprises private-investment scheme.

Platini, who once faced fraud accusations himself, is suing Infantino, Marco Villiger and Domenico Scala in France for a purported criminal conspiracy that blocked his 2015 FIFA candidacy. The former UEFA chief added that Infantino’s pursuit of a March re-election faces growing scrutiny worldwide.
