Gaza families plead for tents and aid as winter approaches
Displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza urged donors to provide tents, blankets and medical supplies ahead of the cold season, warning of severe shelter shortages.
In the southern Gaza Strip, displaced families gathered in Khan Younis' Fash Farsh district to demand urgent shelter materials before winter sets in. Protesters displayed signs pleading for tents, blankets and food, citing torn shelters and empty stomachs. Iyad Zomor highlighted the need for tarpaulins and health supplies to withstand heavy rain and strong winds, while Iyad Al-Shaer warned that current tents provide insufficient protection.
Ahmed Hassan Al-Najjar, who manages the area, reported that 35 displacement camps house about 6,000 families, or roughly 40,000 individuals, and are experiencing acute shortages of tents, food parcels and medical aid. The appeal comes amid Israel's blockade, which has left most of Gaza's infrastructure destroyed and caused tens of thousands of casualties since October 2023.
