Giorgetti pledges structural end to car tax and outlines fiscal updates

In a recent session of the Chamber, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti reiterated the government's commitment to make the abolition of the car registration tax a lasting measure, echoing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s earlier statements. He noted that the precise shape of the reform will be shaped by a revised public-finance plan that must reflect upcoming macro-economic projections, including interest-rate trends and raw-material price movements.

Giorgetti added that expanding the second IRPEF tax bracket remains one of the objectives. He pointed to improved OECD forecasts, indicating Italy is no longer lagging behind other European nations. Regarding statistical data, he defended the government's performance against Istat projections. He said the government will clarify its intentions within the public-finance framework at the beginning of October.
