Glucksmann eyes upset over Faure in upcoming online socialist primary
European Parliament member Raphaël Glucksmann hopes to defeat Olivier Faure in the socialist primary’s first online round.
The Socialist Party’s internal election will take place entirely online between Friday morning and Saturday night, followed by a prompt tally of votes. European Parliament member Raphaël Glucksmann is currently the favorite, yet analysts doubt he can secure an outright win in the first round. Throughout three televised debates, Glucksmann endured a barrage of accusations, ranging from sexist remarks to claims of being a secret agent of Macronism and lacking experience for top leadership.
Some rivals have even likened him to a masked bandit attempting a “hold-up” of the party. Nonetheless, Glucksmann told France 2 that he remains committed to the democratic process and hopes the contest concludes swiftly.
Why it matters
The primary will determine the Socialist Party’s leadership and its stance in upcoming national elections.
