Government earmarks RM100 million for flood control projects in Klang Valley

The 2027 Budget includes a RM100 million allocation for retention ponds and river upkeep to curb flash floods in the Klang Valley, announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

During the tabling of the 2027 Budget, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim disclosed a RM100 million package aimed at reducing flash-flood hazards in the Klang Valley through new retention ponds and river-maintenance work. The federal and Selangor governments have agreed on five key flood-mitigation measures, including a three-decade review of the capacities of Batu Dam and Klang Gates Dam. As an immediate step, the allocated funds will support the construction of retention basins and river clean-up.

In Kelantan, the plan calls for the Lebir Dam project to address long-term flooding and water-supply concerns, while the Machang Water Treatment Plant and pipe-replacement initiatives are already in progress. These actions form part of a broader strategy to improve water management and protect densely populated areas from severe flooding.

Why it matters
