Prime Minister to unveil fare relief for Southern Shuttle ahead of Budget 2027

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to announce cheaper fares for the KTM Komuter Southern Shuttle during the Budget 2027 presentation, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

During a ceremony for the BAS.MY expansion in Johor Bahru, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will reveal a fare-reduction measure for the KTM Komuter Southern Shuttle when the Budget 2027 is tabled tomorrow. Launched in June, the Southern Shuttle has moved roughly 20,000 passengers, averaging 200-300 daily, and currently runs on two sets of existing trains pending the arrival of new electric multiple units within two to three years.

Loke noted the initiative aims to ease the cost-of-living pressure for commuters from Kempas, Paloh and Kulai. He also addressed the Tebrau Shuttle, confirming it will continue until six months after the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link begins service, as stipulated in the bilateral agreement.
