Government launches interactive portal to display National Cultural Fund allocations

The Prime Minister's Office has opened an online map and chart tool showing how the National Cultural Fund's grants were distributed between 2021 and 2026.

The Prime Minister's Office has published an interactive platform featuring maps and graphs that detail the National Cultural Fund's grant awards from 2021 through 2026. Users can see the recipients, amounts and the decision bodies—either the Temporary College for Priority Cultural Programs or individual ministerial approvals—behind each grant. The initiative follows a summer investigation that examined over a thousand cases of fund usage outside its legal purpose, prompting the arrest of former culture minister Hankó Balázs.

Authorities stress that receiving a grant does not imply wrongdoing, but the new tool is intended to make public spending in the cultural sector fully traceable. The portal also provides data on the total sums allocated through the two decision channels, which together accounted for roughly a third of all grants in the period. By making this information publicly accessible, the government seeks to curb opaque practices and restore confidence in cultural funding.

Why it matters

It lets citizens verify how public money for culture is spent, addressing concerns about misuse and political influence.
