Greece to Advance Greece-Cyprus Power Link with French Partnership, EU Backing Confirmed

Giorgos Gerapetritis told Cosmos FM that Greece, in full cooperation with France, will proceed with the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection in the coming weeks, securing licences and NAVTEX releases for cable surveying. He noted that the European Union monitors the project, which is jointly owned by Greece, France and the EU, the latter also contributing funding. The minister stressed that EU law prohibits any member from obstructing such a cross-border infrastructure, which will end Cyprus’s energy isolation and boost the resilience of the European energy market.

Gerapetritis also reiterated Greece’s firm stance toward Turkey, calling for dialogue grounded in international law. He linked the initiative to Greece’s broader diplomatic agenda, including its upcoming EU Council presidency and recent high-level meetings in New York.
